Sample Collection Solutions

Helping to make clinical or biological sample collection and storage easier.

Clinical diagnostic testing can be performed on a wide variety of samples collected from the human body. These include samples of blood, urine, saliva, sputum, faeces, semen, and other bodily fluids. Tissues can also be tested for certain biomarkers.

Urine, faeces, sputum, and semen are collected as the body naturally eliminates them and often they can be collected by the patient. However, obtaining them can be awkward and unpleasant for some patients so anything that helps make the process more convenient will encourage test uptake and ensure quality samples for the lab.

Blood samples can be collected from blood vessels by trained phlebotomists or medical personnel. The sample is obtained by needle puncture and withdrawn by suction through the needle into a special collection tube. Alternatively for some tests that only require a small sample of blood from a finger stick, the patient may be able to collect this themselves.

Sample Collection Requirements

Easy Collection

Quick, simple and clean methods for collecting a sample

No Contamination

Methods that ensure a quality sample that is not contaminated by e.g. toilet water, other bodily fluids etc.

Sample Preservation

For laboratory tests the sample needs to be contained and transported to the laboratory in a timely manner. A combined collection and storage solution that includes a preservative will stabilise the sample integrity to maximise quality of the testing results.
